Sashless Windows work with a variety of timber species; Scandinavian Pine (North European Redwood), Oak, Iroko, Sapele and Hemlock.

Scandinavian sawmills have introduced many new developments in ‘timber engineering’ over recent years to improve usage from the log whilst producing superior raw material for the manufacturers.

Sashless Window Company work closely with some Finnish mills to source a material known as ‘end-jointed timber’.

This is a very stable, defect-free high heartwood material which is ideally suited for window production.

Heartwood from the centre of the log is the most durable part and planks are cut in such a way that heartwood content is maximised (typically 60%).

Centre of the log is removed to avoid defects such as pith and shake.

The plank is then ‘defect cut’ so that any blemishes (knots, shakes, pitch pockets etc) are removed and the remaining defect free material is end-jointed and glued back together.

Use of this end-jointed timber reduces risk of timber movement, produces a blemish free window and improves durability thanks to the high proportion of heartwood.

Sashless also manufacture from solid Scandinavian Pine, using timber of best marks from which components are carefully selected to minimise defects such as knots.
