Sashless Windows has always been an innovative company.

Its formation was based on the introduction of a unique innovative window design into the UK. The Grandfather of two of the present Directors set up the Company in 1965 following a fact-finding trip to Canada. There a ‘dual glazed’ window without sashes (hence: ‘sash-less’) was being widely used, offering a cost effective form of double glazing together with large areas of glass.

Hence the ‘Quebec’ window was unleashed on the Specifying market. Demand for this new product was good especially with Local Authority and private housebuilders. The window satisfied design considerations of the time and also provided improved insulation to a budget.

The Quebec, together with its Single Glazed brother ‘The Yorklite’ were the main products for 15 years. Both products reached the end of their product life cycle and the 1980’s saw a break with tradition (and with the logic of the Company name) as new high performance casement windows were introduced. Indeed The Sashless Window Company began producing windows with sashes.

The new window ‘The Cleveland’ was double glazed and supplied mainly in durable hardwoods. The market for the product remained residential but the emphasis changed to high specification Housing Association Sheltered Housing Schemes.

At the beginning of the 1990’s the Company began a process of change involving the design of its products, broadening of is customer base and a widening of the level and type of service provided to customers. Main customers remained architects but end users became Local Authority Schools and Health Authority Hospitals. A Scandinavian design window, ‘The Grampian’, was introduced to complement the Cleveland, which itself was updated to accommodate new glazing systems and higher specification ironmongery.

The Company began to offer a detailed design service to Architects and to get more closely involved at an early stage with all aspects of the window’s design and its suitability for the project.

In recent years the Company has continued to innovate in its product design. For example, through working closely with a number of Health Authorities and Trusts who provide Mental Health Accommodation, we have designed a number of window options specifically for Medium Secure Units.

Also we have continued to update our products’ design by investing in modern machinery and tooling so that we can comply with all relevant standards and building regulations which apply to windows. We now supply windows factory glazed with a range of glazing options to suit various situations. Increasingly windows are supplied factory finished with a wide choice of colours.

To complement our range of windows, which can be supplied in a large number of opening options, we have developed a range of doors and patio doors. We also supply large screens and curtain walling in modular format so that all fenestration aspects of the external envelope of the building can be sourced from one supplier.
